We’ve been visiting SoCal and heard about the Elegant Tern rescue ongoing in Long Beach. The terns are nesting on two temporary barges in the harbor, and young terns have been falling in the water, too young to fly and unable climb back up to their nests on the barge.
International Bird Rescue posted about their efforts to help these chicks, and asked anyone in the area to keep an eye out for young terns in distress. So, we went to check the location for stranded birds. We didn’t see any in the areas where we looked, but we were fortunate to have this incredible view to the cacophony of the tern colony … and then the equally beautiful sight of a rescue vessel arriving at the barge.
International Bird Rescue has many of these young terns in their care now, more than 200, so please go to their Instagram, Facebook, and website to help or donate.
